All 196 en-suite rooms are brand new and have been created by the renowned designer Matteo Thun. They are a successful blend of innovative modern style and practicality, all containing fabulous 27" flat screen TV's (with free in house movies), remarkably comfy duvets and linen, free WIFI high speed access, power shower and a VGA or iPOD connection enabling you to enjoy your own entertainment programme - an interesting feature. The Penta Lounge encompasses the essence of this brand of hotel. The bar area has colourful and contemporary decor and is great for one of a number of beers on offer or a cocktail after a long day - it is a perfect place to chill out and relax. The Restaurant itself offers no pretentions: Good, honest home cooking, nicely presented and all using locally sourced produce. It is also very reasonably priced. This is a modern 7 storey red brick building. The lobby is large and modern, with attentive and welcoming staff. This hotel was formerly the Renaissance and has undergone an extensive and expensive renovation since it re-opened in April 2008 as the Penta. The result is a really good hotel right in the heart of Reading offering superb accessibility, immensely friendly and helpful staff, and state of the art accomodation - the like of which is not seen elsewhere in Reading. Whilst the hotel doesn't have a Car Park, there is an NCP very close by and where guests can park at a subsidised hotel rate. The hotel also includes the Millennium Spa Leisure Club, which has an indoor swimming pool, gym, sauna, steam room, and beauty treatments. (GW 05/2008)
