Glenfinnan House Hotel is a fine stone 18th century mansion that stands just around the bay from the tall Bonnie Prince Charlie monument on Loch Shiel, with its lawn rolling down to the beach. The famous Glenfinnan viaduct railway bridge, used as a scene in several Harry Potter films, is a 10-minute walk away through the Glenfinnan Estate where Red Deer can often be seen. Attractive public rooms include a Drawing Room and a cheery Bar where traditional music is often played. Pine-panelled walls, paintings from the building's past and period décor give an intimate feel to this hotel. The charming bedrooms, many with a beautiful loch view, some with a garden view, are furnished with terrific old mahogany and oak furniture, huge wardrobes and enormous chests of drawers. Glenfinnan House certainly knows the importance of a good, home cooked Scottish breakfast which is not just the usual run of the mill. Their breakfast chef will prepare smoked venison, kippers or poached egg with smoked salmon and a light creamy dill sauce. For your evening meal, resident chef (and hotel owner) Duncan Gibson has an impressive CV and takes full advantage of Scotland's rich larder. Glenfinnan
