Rivaling the famous Nihonbashi bridge, the Kyobashi bridge maintained its significance as the first bridge to be crossed on the Tokaido road, a highway stretching from Nihonbashi towards Kyoto. Hiroshige Utagawa's ukiyo-e wood block print ?Kyobashi Take-gashi? from his famed series ?Meisho Edo Hyakkei? (One Hundred Famous Views of Edo) was created as a symbol of this significance.
